Julia Bachrach will give this presentation during a tour of West Side Gems sponsored by the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park of Grand Rapids, MI. The tour includes two iconic Prairie style properties that were both completed in 1908—Unity Temple and the Garfield Park Conservatory. During lunchtime, Julia will speak about the evolution of Prairie style landscapes and architecture in Chicago’s parks. The talk will explore the substantial contributions of Jens Jensen, who became known as the Dean of Prairie style landscape architects for his use of organic pathways, native plants, stratified stonework, and naturalistic settings. The presentation will provide an informative introduction to group’s visit to the Garfield Park Conservatory later in the afternoon.
